Wojtas Scores Career High 27 Points in Win Over RIC

KEENE, NH - Senior Christan Wojtas scored a career high 27 points as the Keene State women's basketball team cruised to a 92-52 win over Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference basketball action. 

The Owls have now won three straight and improve to 13-8, 5-5, while the Anchorwomen fall to 6-15, 4-6. 

RIC jumped out to a 8-2 lead, forcing a timeout by the home team where KSC responded with a quick 5-0 run sparked by a Wojtas trey and Stephanie D'Annolfo layup at the 14:03 mark. 

The Owls used a 25-4 run midway through the first half to take a 35-17 lead with 4:36 left before halftime. 

Coming out of the locker room with a 44-26 edge, KSC scored eight quick points to take a 25 point lead and never looked back as the Annchorwomen could never get in a rythm to make a comeback. The Owls largest lead of the came was 43 points as Ryanne Williams sank two free throws to make the score 90-47 with 39 seconds left in the game. 

All 12 Owls scored as Wojtas' 27 points came on 11-17 shooting, inlcuding five 3-pointers and 21 first half points. Kelsey Cognetta directed the offense to the tune of 11 points and four assists, while Amanda Petrow added 10 points, six rebounds off the bench. Stephanie D'Annolfo had a complete game with seven points, eight boards and four helpers. KSC was hot from the field shooting 50.7 percent (35-69) and 31.8 percent from long distance (7-22), while also holding a 46-32 advantage in rebounds. 

The Anchorwomen were paced by Jess Korzec's eight points and seven rebounds and two steals.  Alex Moore and Jessa Rubera eached chipped in eight points, while Devin Hill added six points and seven rebounds. RIC shot 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the field for the game, while shooting 29.4 percent (5-17) from three-point range and 56.3 percent (9-16) from the free throw line. 

In upcoming action, KSC will hit the road for a LEC matchup at Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, while RIC travels to Western Connecticut. Both games are at 5:30 p.m.
