Softball Picks Up First Win Of Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla.--The Keene State College softball team split a pair of games on the second day of their Spring Break trip to Florida, defeating Lesley University 3-0 in the opening before falling to the University of New England in the second game.

KSC is now 1-3 this season.

Lesley

A strong performance from Mariah Crisp and timely hitting lifted KSC to their first win of the season.

Crisp spun a three-hitter over 5.1 innings, striking out seven as the Owls got single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.

Heather Pelletier led off the fourth with a double to center field, and moved to third on Aliza Guerrero's sacrifice bunt.  Olivia Indorf's double to right brough Pelletier home for the only run KSC would need.

KSC would get more, as Brittany DaMota singled with one out in the fifth and scored on Sara Bracken's RBI single.  The Owls picked up a third in the seventh as Bracken walked and pinch-runner Kayla Votto scored on an error.

Crisp was sharp, allowing runners past first base twice and no extra base hits.  Ashlee McGan tossed 1.2 innings of hitless relief.

University of New England

KSC led 6-3 but allowed seven runs in the fifth inning as the Nor'Easters came back to win.

After spotting UNE a two run lead in the first, KSC scored three times in the second to go in front.  Morgan Fallon cracked a one-out double, scoring on Rachel Boynton's single to center.  Shae Crosby brought Boynton home with a single to left, and a UNE error allowed Crosby to score.

UNE tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Chase in the top of the third, but KSC went up 4-3 on Aliza Guerrero's home run to left field in the bottom of half of the inning.

Pelletier increased the lead to 6-3 with a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but the Nor'Easters went in front for good, scoring seven runs on four hits and taking advantage of a KSC error.

All but three of UNE's runs were unearned.  Fallon was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, while Crosby also had two hits.  Olivia Indorf took the loss.

The Owls play Wesleyan (Conn.) and Utica on Tuesday at 9 am and 11 am, respectively.
