Owls Pick Up Split On Final Day In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla.--The Keene State College softball team earned a split of its last two games in Florida, falling to Allegheny College (Pa.) by a score of 4-3, then beating the University of Chicago 3-1.

Keene State is now 5-7 as they head back to New England.

Allegheny

The Gators scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the win.

The Owls had taken leads of 1-0 and 2-1 early in the game.  Aliza Guerrero singled in Stephanie Long in the first inning, and after Allegheny had tied the game in the bottom half, Long rapped a single to center to bring in Shae Crosby.

KSC increased the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning when Kayla Votto scored on an error.

Allegheny took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, and won the game in the seventh inning when Belle Mazurik led off with a bunt single and Alexis Ryan brought her in with a single to center field.

Lindsey Musco took the loss for the Owls, notching two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief.  Olivia Indorf went the first 3.1 innings and allowed three unearned runs.  Crosby and Long each had a pair of hits.

Chicago

Jen Galavotti had a pinch-hit, solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to put Keene State ahead for good in a 2-1 win.

The Owls had taken a 1-0 lead when Sara Bracken drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning, and the score stayed that way until the top of the sixth.

The Maroons tied the game on an RBI double from Kathleen Kohm, but an astute defensive play cut down Anna Woolery at the plate to keep the score at 1-1.

KSC went back in front immediately, as Galavotti, pinch hitting for Caroline McSherry, cranked her first Keene State home run to center field.  The Owls added an insurance run when Long reached on an infield hit and Bracken picked up her second RBI of the day with a double to center.

Mariah Crisp picked up her third win of the season, notching seven strikeouts and lowering her ERA to 1.21.

The Owls are scheduled to play a road doubleheader against Springfield College on Wednesday, March 25.  Stay tuned to Keeneowls.com for any updates on weather related postponements.
