Softball Goes Deep In Sweep of UMass Boston

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KEENE, N.H.--Keene State hit four home runs in the nightcap en route to a sweep of UMass Boston in a Little East Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Owl Athletic Complex.  The Owls won the first game 11-2 in five innings, then won the second game 12-5.

KSC, which swept a conference doubleheader for the first time this season, evens up their record at 10-10, with a 5-3 mark in the LEC.  The Beacons fall to 4-16, and 1-7 in LEC.

Game One

The Beacons took a quick lead in the top of the first when Gia Raczkowski hit a solo homerun over the fence in leftcenter.  The Owls roared back with 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, sending 16 batters to the plate.

Stephanie Long opened the inning with a double, and scored on Sara Bracken's single up the middle.  After Aliza Guerrero walked, Morgan Fallon singled and an error brought in Bracken, and Katie Newell had a 2-RBI single.

Shae Crosby brought in two more runs with a single to right field, and a fielder's choice from Bracken made it 7-1.  Guerrero singled in Long, and another UMass Boston error allowed Guerrero and Bracken to score.

Kirsten Morrison homered to straightaway center to cut the lead to 10-2, but Caroline McSherry singled in Fallon in the fourth for the final margin.

Fallon finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  Ashlee McGan struck out four in a complete game five game effort.

Game Two

Homers from Jen Galavotti, Bracken, Guerrero, and Fallon helped KSC pull away from the Beacons.

The game was scoreless until the second, when Galavotti led off the second with her third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

Bracken made it 2-0 with a solo shot of her own in the bottom of the third, and an error by the Beacons made it 3-0.

UMass Boston cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Lyndsey Capra and Kelsey Cruse, but KSC made it 7-2 in the bottom half.  Brittany DaMota singled with one out, followed by a single from Long.  Bracken was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Guerrero hit her third home run of the year, an opposite field grand slam to right center.

The Beacons would not go away, as a fielder's choice and a 2-RBI double made it 7-5 in the fifth.  The Owls finally pulled away in the bottom of the sixth.  Guerrero singled to lead off, and this time it was Fallon's turn to go deep, with her second of the season, also to left.

The second UMass Boston error of the day allowed Galavotti to score after she reached on a single and stole second.  DaMota had an RBI double and Sam Murphy an RBI triple to make it 12-5.

Olivia Indorf picked up the win with 4.1 innings of work in the circle.  McGan came on in relief and worked 2.2 innings to pick up the save.

KSC returns to action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader against Springfield College.  UMass Boston plays Brandeis on Friday afternoon.
