Box Score 2 GORHAM, Maine--The Keene State College softball team was limited to two runs over two games in falling to the University of Southern Maine in a doubleheader 3-1 and 5-1 on Saturday.
Keene State is now 10-14, and 5-5 in the LEC. The Huskies are 18-14, and improve to 5-5 in the Little East Conference.
Game One
Ashlee McGan threw a complete game with six strikeouts, but KSC was held to just five singles in the loss.
The Huskies struck first in the bottom of the first when Amber Kelly singled in Courtney Davis. Keene State tied the game in the top of the third when Stephanie Long reached on a fielder's choice and took second on an error before coming around on Stephanie Long's single to right center.
Kristen Duross singled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to put the Huskies up 3-1. The Owls had opportunities to tie the game; Sam Murphy singled and moved into scoring position on an error - after Long walked, a wild pitch moved both runners up a base but were stranded when Bracken struck out.
In the sixth, Morgan Fallon singled with one out, but was left on first base when Brittany DaMota flied out to right field and Jen Galavotti struck out.
Game Two
The Owls again did not record an extra base hit in the second game. KSC jumped to a 1-0 lead as Long singled and came around on the first of four Southern Maine errors on the day.
Southern Maine went back in front in the second courtesy of RBI singles from Danni Humphrey and Taylor Lux. USM added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
KSC's best chance came in the sixth when Murphy singled and another error allowed her to reach second. The second USM error of the inning put Murphy on third, but Kayla Votto struck out to end the threat.
Long was the only KSC player to record more than one hit. Olivia Indorf went the first four innings for KSC; McGan came on in relief and allowed two hits in two innings.
The Owls return home for a non-conference doubleheader with Castleton State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
