Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Mariah Crisp tossed a complete game four hitter with nine strikeouts, including the 500th of her career, as the Keene State College softball team ended the regular season with an 11-1 win over Westfield State University on Tuesday night.
Crisp now has 501 strikeouts, trailing only Ashlee Nicholson '08 (532) and Lindsey Blood '00 (513) on KSC's all-time list.
Keene State gave Crisp all the support she would need with an eight run first inning. KSC sent 13 batters to the plate and hit two home runs after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the inning.
Stephanie Long singled and scored on Sara Bracken's double to tie the game, and after Morgan Fallon walked, Jen Galavotti hit her team leading fifth home run of the season over the scoreboard in left-center.
Katie Newell was the next batter up, and she promptly doubled to left-center, and Rachel Boynton hit her second home run in four games to left field that made it 6-1.
KSC wasn't done, as Caroline McSherry walked and Long hit a triple to deep center, and came around again for the second time in the inning when Bracken singled to left.
McSherry walked again in the third and scored on Long's double, and singled in the 11th run for Keene State with a bases loaded single in the fourth.
Crisp kept the Westfield State bats off kilter, striking out the side in the second and getting out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning. The 500th strikeout came in the top of the fifth, when she got Erika Gouin swining, and added another when she struck out Emilie Manna for the second out of the inning.
The postseason begins for Keene State when they play Plymouth State in the opening game of the Little East Conference tournament at Eastern Connecticut State on Thursday at 2 p.m. Westfield State heads to Salem State for a MASCAC game that will get started at 4:30 pm on Thursday.
