Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn.--Mariah Crisp pitched a complete game three hitter and Jen Galavotti hit her sixth home run of the season as the Keene State College softball team beat Plymouth State University 4-0 at the Little East Conference tournament at Eastern Connecticut State.
The Owls improve to 15-17 and will face the University of Southern Maine at 12 p.m. on Friday. The No. 5 seed Huskies scored four times in the top of the seventh to beat second seeded Western Connecticut State 8-7 earlier in the day.
Keene State got the only run they would need in the first inning when Stephanie Long led off with a double and moved to third on a PSU error. Another error by the Panthers allowed Long to score and Morgan Fallon to reach base.
The Owls increased the lead to 3-0 in the second inning. Caroline McSherry singled and scored on Kayla Votto's double, and Long followed up with a double to bring Votto around.
Galavotti hit her third home run in five games in the third inning. The sophomore has now hit safely in her last eight games.
Crisp, meanwhile, was nigh unhittable, allowing singles in the third and sixth innings, and a double in the seventh to improve to 7-3 and recording five strikeouts without a walk.
Tomorrow's meeting between Keene State and Southern Maine will be the first in the LEC tournament since 2010. The Huskies were the only team to sweep Keene State in LEC play this year, taking a doubleheader 3-1 and 5-1 on April 18.
