Owls Sweep Day Two of Brandeis Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Keene State College volleyball team picked up wins over Johnson & Wales (R.I.) and Wellesley on the second day of the Brandeis Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Owls opened the day with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) victory over the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales for their first win of the season.

Setters Brooke Bell and Alexis Michal ran an effecient offense combining for 31 assists.

Angela Silveri led the Owls with nine kills and three block assists, while Rachel Lamica hit .300 with seven kills. Freshman libero Riley Bunker finished with a 16 digs to lead the Owls defensively.

KSC followed that performance with a 3-1 win over Wellesley for the first time in program history.

The Owls rallied after dropping the first set to take a 3-1 victory. Following Wellesley's 25-21 opening set win, Keene St. responded with a 25-16 win in the second set before closing out the match with back-to-back 25-15 victories in the third and fourth set.

Sophomore Rachel Lamica turned in a breakout game, recording a career-high 16 kills to go with six digs.

Brooke Bell and Alexis Michal totaled 35 assists, while freshman Riley Bunker led the team with 21 digs.

Brooke Fieldman Wellesley with 11 kills and first years Elise Griffin and Ashley Peng each recorded six kills, respectively, while classmate Michelle Li had a team-high 17 assists for the Blue. In all, five Wellesley players finished with double-digit dig totals, as Peng recorded 13.

Sophomore Rachel Lamica was named to the All-Tournament team.
