Box Score KEENE, N.H. - Keene State College freshman Erica Stauffer registered her first career goal but it was not enough as the field hockey team suffered their first home loss of the season to Williams College 3-1 Tuesday evening at Owl Stadium.
The Ephs (1-0) wasted no time getting on the board as Rachel Brissette found the back of the cage just 2:01 into the game.
The visitors doubled their lead to 2-0 at the 12:42 mark when Owls' goalkeeper Meaghan tried to intercept a pass by Julianna Kostas but the ball found Kara Sperry wide open in front of the cage.
Freshman Erica Stauffer cut the lead in half when she took a feed from Sami Smith and sent it past the Ephs' keeper.
Williams put the game out of reach when the KSC defense was unable to make a clear after two magnificent saves by Dwyer as Brissette notched her second score of the game.
KSC goalkeeper Meaghan Dwyer was outstanding in net, recording a career high 22 saves, while her counterpart Margaret Draper made five stops.
Wililams held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners, including a 6-1 margin in the second half.
The Owls host Springfield College Thursday at 6:30 pm.
