Women's Basketball Shakes Rhode Island College for 68-48 Win

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's basketball team limited Rhode Island College to 27.1% shooting in a 68-48 win in Little East Conference action at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.

  • Keene State leads 20-14.  The Owls have won three straight over the Anchorwomen.

Tale of the Tape

  • Keene State was led by 15 points from Sandi Purcell, while Stephanie D'Annolfo had 11 points.  Amanda Petrow (nine points, eight rebounds) and Ryanne Williams (nine points, 11 rebounds) both narrowly missed double-doubles.
  • RIC's Alex Moore led all players with 24 points.  Devin Hill added 12.
  • Keene State used big runs in the two middle quarters to pull away.  The Owls outscored RIC 13-6 in the second quarter and 25-16 in the third.
  • The Anchorwomen made just five baskets in the first half, but kept it close; four of them were three pointers.  Rhode Island College also shot 15-for-18 from the foul line for the game.

 

First Half Highlights

 

  • Keene State held an early 6-3 lead, but RIC went on an 8-0 run as Molly Phillips and Moore hit three pointers and Devin Hill had a layup for an 11-6 advantage.
  • Petrow's basket inside and D'Annolfo's free throw tied the game at 14 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Moore had five points in the first four minutes of the second quarter, but the Anchorwomen would only score two more points.  Meanwhile, Purcell canned a three, D'Annolfo had a layup, and Valerie Martin scored four consecutive points as Keene State took a 25-19 lead.
  • Hill's free throw with 45 seconds remaining cut the gap to 27-20 at the half.

 

Second Half Highlights

  • The Anchorwomen stayed within touching distance, as Meghan Reall connected on a long range shot that cut the lead to 32-27, but the Owls ended the third quarter on a 20-9 run.  Purcell made a pair of threes during that stretch, and Williams had seven of her nine points, including a three point play.
  • Keene State continued to add to the lead in the fourth quarter, as Purcell, Kelsey Cognetta, and Valerie Martin all made threes in the opening minutes of the period that pushed the lead to 64-41.  
  • The Owls had their biggest lead at 68-41 on Josie Amerson's layup with 5:27 to go before the Anchorwomen scored the final seven points of the game.
