KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's basketball team made sure their first losing streak of the season was as short one with a 75-59 win over UMass Boston at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.

  • Keene State has won 28 of the 34 all-time meetings between the two teams, and swept the season series with the Beacons.

Tale of the Tape

  • Sandi Purcell scored 25 points, one short of her career high, to lead Keene State.  The sophomore guard was 9-for-17 from the floor and 7-for-14 from three point range.  Amanda Petrow had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Stephanie D'Annolfo had nine points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.  
  • Ariana Rivera was the only UMass Boston player in double figures, scoring a career high 20 points.  Olivia Murphy, who came into the game second in the LEC in scoring at 17.3 points per game, was held to nine points and made just one shot from the floor.
  • The Owls outrebounded the Beacons 47-30, including 19-12 on the offensive glass. 
  • Keene State ended a two game losing skid with the victory.   


First Half Highlights

  • Purcell was hot from the start, as Keene State exploded out to an 18-7 lead with the sophomore making three three pointers in the first six minutes of the opening quarter.  
  • Rivera connected on a pair of threes that pulled the Beacons within 18-13 with 1:37 left in the first quarter, and Taje Burston made a three in the opening minutes of the second quarter to get UMass Boston within 20-17.
  • The Beacons stayed close, as Grace Geary sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 28-25 with 3:26 remaining, but Purcell made another three and D'Annolfo scored for a 33-27 lead at halftime.

Second Half Highlights

  • Keene State stayed in front throughout the third quarter, taking a 36-31 lead when Sarah Kober went 1-for-2 from the line.
  • Ryanne Williams' layup and D'Annolfo's three point play gave the Owls a 50-39 lead with 18 seconds left in the third quarter.
  • Purcell made her final three of the game with 1:09 left and Petrow's free throw with 50 seconds to go gave the Owls their largest lead of the game 72-56.
