Women's Basketball Extends Streak To 11 With 65-29 Win Over Fitchburg State

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's basketball team maintained its perfect record with a 65-29 win over Fitchburg State University on Monday night at Spaulding Gym.

Tale of the Tape
 

  • Keene State outscored the Falcons 25-4 in the second quarter to blow the game wide open.  The Owls shot 52.6% in the second quarter and limited Fitchburg State to 1-14 (7.1%) shooting in the period.
  • Sarah Kober had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Valerie Martin led all players with 16 points.  Amanda Petrow and Lydia St. Pierre each had seven points.
  • Fitchburg State was paced by Erika Schneider, who scored 12 points and pulled down 15 boards.  The Falcons were hurt by 28 turnovers and went to the free throw line nine times.
  • Keene State dominated the offensive glass, outrebounding the Falcons 26-12 on the offensive boards and 55-44 overall.  
  • Every player but two scored for KSC. 

First Half Highlights

  • Schneider's layup pulled the Falcons within 10-8 with 3:34 left in the first quarter, but the Owls scored the final five points of the period to take a 15-8 lead. 
  • The floodgates opened in the second period, as Keene State opened on a 16-0 run powered by seven points from Kober and capped by a three from Lydia Vital.  The Falcons missed their 11 shots from the floor before Melissa Guglielmello made a jumper with 3:04 to go.
  • Keene State took a 40-12 lead into the locker room when Martin knocked down a three from the left corner as the clock expired. 

Second Half Highlights

  • The Owls continued the onslaught in the third quarter, scoring the first eight points for a 48-14 lead on Sandi Purcell's steal and fast-break layup.
  • Martin's layup with 1:12 left in the third quarter gave Keene State their biggest lead at 52-16.
  • St. Pierre, playing her first game in Spaulding Gym, scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter, including a three with 48 seconds remaining for the final margin.
