Volleyball Takes The Sting Out Of Lyndon State With 3-0 Win

LYNDON, Vt.--The Keene State College volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) non-conference win over Lyndon State College on Tuesday night at Stannard Gym.

Tale of the Tape

  • The Owls spread the offense around, led by Kat Carrel, who pounded down eight kills and hit .333.  Brook Hatanaka had five kills and hit .455, while Katie Dyer and Taylor Bright each added four.
  • Katie Cunningham had 11 assists and Jenny Nohara had nine.  Keene State also served up 14 aces, including three from Riley Bunker and two each from Nohara, Dyer, Jeni Severino, and Hannah Syzmanski.  
  • Bunker, who earned LEC Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier in the week, had nine digs, with Leslie Hearns adding five and Nohara and Cunningham each having four.


Set One Highlights

  • The Hornets nudged out to an early 4-1 lead, but Severino served KSC into five straight points, with a pair of aces on either side of a kill from Hatanaka.
  • An ace from Syzmanski increased Keene State's lead to 15-12, part of a 6-0 run that gave KSC a 19-12 lead on a kill by Severino.
  • Consecutive aces from Bunker got KSC to set point at 24-16, and after Lyndon State pulled one point back, Hatanaka's kill gave the Owls the first set.


Set Two Highlights

  • A Lyndon State service error tied the set at three, setting the stage for an 8-0 run with kills from Carrel and Hatanaka that saw the lead increase to 11-3.
  • The Hornets closed to within 14-9, but Bright and Niamh Dodd had kills that gave KSC a 16-9 advantage.
  • The Owls maintained a seven point edge on Dodd's kill for a 23-16 lead, and the Hornets committed errors, including a service error that gave KSC set.


Set Three Highlights

  • Keene State fell behind 7-3 as the Hornets got three kills from Kelleigh Murtagh and an ace from Abbey Greene.  
  • The deficit stayed at four at 12-8, but KSC went on a 9-2 run, starting with a service ace from Nohara and ending with back-to-back aces from Dyer for a 17-14 lead.
  • The Owls never looked back, going up 22-17 on Kelly Hunt's service ace, and getting to match point on a Lyndon State error.
  • Two points from the Hornets got LSC within 24-22, but Dyer ended the set and the match on Dyer's kill.
