Keene State Pulls Away From Plymouth State For 67-54 Win

PLYMOUTH, N.H.--Sandi Purcell led three players in double-figures with 16 points as the Keene State College women's basketball team picked up a 67-54 win over Plymouth State University on Wednesday night at Foley Gym.

  • Keene State leads 33-7.  The Owls have won 14 in a row over their in-state rivals 

Tale of the Tape

  • Purcell made 6-of-13 shots from the field.  She was joined in double-figures by Stephanie D'Annolfo, who was just short of a double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds, and Kelsey Cognetta, who had 10 points.  Ryanne Williams also was close to a double-double with nine points and eight boards.
  • The Panthers' Ace Lawrence led all players with 20 points.
  • Keene State, which came in at No. 9 in the first NCAA Regional rankings today, shot 60% in the third quarter while holding the Panthers to 23.8%.

First Half Highlights

  • Williams' layup with 4:27 left in the first quarter staked the Owls to a 8-5 lead.  The Panthers finished the period on a 9-4 run as Kayla Wyland scored all nine points, including a layup with 20 seconds left for a 14-12 lead.
  • Lawrence connected on a pair of free throws with 5:25 left in the second quarter to extend the Panther lead to 20-16.
  • After Emily McPadden and Taylor Perry traded threes, the Owls got baskets from Amanda Petrow and D'Annolfo for a 27-25 lead at halftime.


Second Half Highlights

  • Keene State took control in the third quarter, opening on an 8-3 run that began and ended with layups from Purcell to lead 35-28.
  • The sophomore then made threes on consecutive possesions to push the lead to 41-31 with 5:27 left.
  • Lawrence drained a three with 2:41 to go, cutting the cap to 44-34, but a layup from Valerie Martin and two from Cognetta extended the lead to 50-34.
  • The Panthers used an 8-2 run to make it an 11 points game (61-50) with 4:02 left, but could not get closer.

  • Keene State travels to Western Connecticut State for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, February 13.
  • Plymouth State will remain at home, hosting UMass Boston at 1 p.m. on February 13.
