Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KEENE, N.H.--Jen Galavotti homered in each game as the Keene State College softball team blew past UMass Boston 11-1 and 11-3 in a Little East Conference doubleheader at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Records

  • Keene State: 19-13, 10-2 LEC
  • UMass Boston: 18-16, 5-7 LEC

Up Next

  • Keene State travels to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
  • The Beacons host Plymouth State on Saturday, also at 1 p.m.

Playoff Permutations

  • The Owls, ranked eighth in the latest NCAA regional poll, can clinch the No. 1 seed in next week's LEC tournament by gaining at least a split of their doubleheader with the Huskies.  If KSC were to get swept, and UMass Dartmouth were to sweep their doubleheader against Western Connecticut State, the Corsairs would be the No. 1 seed due to a better head to head record against Southern Maine.

How It Happened - Game One

  • Mariah Crisp struck out seven and walked none as KSC recovered from an early deficit.
  • The Beacons grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Lauren Mitsiaris' RBI double.  The Owls went in front for good in the bottom of the inning, as Heather Pelletier drew the first of three walks on the day with two out.  Morgan Fallon singled her over to third, and Galavotti cranked an opposite field home run over the right field fence fora 3-1 lead.
  • That was all Crisp needed, as she retired the final eight batters she faced.  KSC increased the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Fallon and a perfectly executed double steal that saw Kayla Votto cross home plate.
  • KSC added six runs in the fifth to end the game via run-rule.  Olivia Indorf led off the inning with a solo homer to right-center, and two walks, and a single from Brittany DaMota loaded the bases.
  • Kayla Votto slapped a single to right field to bring in two more, and Fallon hit a three run homer to left center as KSC walked off with the win.

How It Happened - Game Two

  • The KSC bats picked up where they left off in the bottom of the first, as the Owls sent all nine batters to the plate.  Pelletier drove in a run with a single to center, and Galavotti drove in another with a fielder's choice.
  • The Beacons tied the game in the top of the second, as Mitsiaris and Alex St. Angelo walked and Alyssa Tulley loaded the bases with a bunt single.  After Taylor Marcotte flied out to left, Taylor Pawlina brought in two runs with a single to left-center, but Crisp escaped further damage by getting Kaitlyn Morse to groundout to first and Kristina Bove to pop to Fallon at third base.
  • Mitsiaris had an RBI groundout in the top of the third to give UMB its first lead of the day.  The score remained that way until the fifth, when consecutive doubles by Fallon and Galavotti tied the score.
  • An eight run sixth inning then ended the contest, as a single from Shae Crosby and a pair of fielder's choices loaded the bases, and Kayla Votto hit into another fielder's choice to put KSC back in front.  Pelletier added a sacrifice fly, and Fallon hit an RBI single to make it 6-3.
  • Galavotti then crushed her second home run of the day and seventh of the season, a three run shot to right that made it 9-3, and Crosby, batting for the second time in the inning, sent the Owls home with a two run shot to left.
  • Molly St. Germain earned the win with four innings of relief, upping her record to 6-6.  Vic Zechello took the loss (7-7).
