Brown's Brace Sends Keene State Past Southern Maine, 4-0

KEENE, N.H.--Junior Kendal Brown's first two goals of the season gave the Keene State College field hockey team a 4-0 Little East Conference win over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.

Tale of the Tape

  • Keene State dominated every facet of the game, outshooting the Huskies 25-0, with a 13-0 edge in shots on goal.
  • KSC also took 14 penalty corners to one for the Huskies, 11 of them coming in the first half.
  • Gwen Thayer picked up the win in the cage for Keene State, playing 53 minutes and not making a save.  Kendra Lonergan made her first appearance of the season in relief, playing the final 17 minutes.
  • Amanda Kasbohm made nine saves for the Huskies



First Half Highlights

  • The Owls poured it on from the beginning, earning six corners in the first 10 minutes of the game.
  • Brown opened the scoring in the 11th minute, as Brittney Cardente inserted a corner and Brown controlled Marita Brothers' stick stop to hammer home her first of the season past Kasbohm.
  • Only Kasbohm's saves kept the Owls from a bigger margin at the break, as she stopped Kayla Renaud and Brown again, as well as Jensyn Dandeneau.  
  • The Owls had two more corners as time ran out in the first half, but Renaud shot wide as the Owls took a 1-0 lead into the break.



Second Half Highlights

  • Almost immediately, the Owls were up 2-0, as Julia Babbitt poked home her sixth of the year with just 31 seconds played.
  • Brown grabbed her second of the game in 47th minute, a nearly carbon copy of the first.  Brothers collected the corner and passed to Brown on the right side of the circle, and she fired in past Kasbohm.
  • Sami Smith got her name on the scoresheet as well, getting on the end of a pass from Dandeneau five minutes after that.
