How It Happened

Abby Thut and Jasmin Mitchell paced the Owls with 10 points each.  Thut added a team-high eight rebounds, while Mitchell also had three assists and a steal.  Emily McPadden had eight points and three rebounds.  Endicott, who had the two high scorers in the game, got 22 points from Emily Pratt and 19 points from Kaleigh Putnam.

Keene State came out firing, as they built a 7-0 lead just 2:26 into the contest.  Hien Thach made a three and Samira Sangare a layup as the Owls scored five points in the opening minute before getting a layup from Mitchell at the 7:34 mark.  Endicott quickly got back in the game, as they scored the next eight consecutive points to go ahead, finished by Pratt's jumper with a little over four minutes to go.  McPadden made a triple later in the quarter and the teams were tied 10-10 after one.  Offense remained tough to come by in the second quarter, though the Gulls did score the initial six points to go up 16-10 at the 8:04 mark.  They only scored two more points in the rest of the period, as KSC finished on an extended 13-2 run.  Thut's bucket at the 3:36 mark tied the game for the Owls, and with just over a minute remaining, a long distance shot from Mitchell put Keene State up 21-18.  A pair of free throws from Lilly Shlimon capped the first half scoring and made it a 23-18 game at the break.

After the teams combined for just 41 points in the opening half, 43 were scored in the third quarter alone.  Putnam's jumper just over three minutes into the third capped a 12-4 Endicott run that gave the visitors a 30-27 lead.  The Owls responded with six straight and were still up 36-33 after McPadden's triple at the 3:14 mark.  Pratt tied the game with one of her own, but Keene State got a three-point play from Jenny Freedman and a jumper each from Thut and McPadden in a 7-0 run that helped match a game-high seven point lead for the Owls (43-36) with 1:35 remaining.  The Gulls scored the final five points of the quarter to get within two and eventually went back ahead 44-43 in the first minute of the fourth.  The scoring slowed from there, but baskets from Thach and Thut had KSC in front 49-46 with 4:22 left.  Keene State did not score again.  Pratt was fouled shooting a three on the next possession and made all three from the line to tie the game, and Endicott went ahead for good (51-49) on Mikaela Rogers' jumper with just over three minutes to go.  Two Putnam buckets in the final two minutes put the game out of reach.
