Qualifications Abound as Track and Field Competes At Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, Maine--Skyler Gauthier qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the pentathlon as the Keene State College track and field team wrapped up competition at the Bates Invitational over the weekend.

Women's Highlights

Gauthier finished second overall, totalling 2,837 points.  She ran the 60 meter hurdles in 10.20 seconds for second place, and was also second in the high jump at 1.49 meters.  She won the shot put with a throw of 8.90 meters, then was second in the long jump at 4.87 meters and second in the 800 meters in 2:40.24.

Other standouts for Keene State included Amanda Deppert, who finished third in the 200 meter dash in 27.69, and Nicole De Almeida, who was third in the 400 meter dash in 1:03.46.   Laura Dawson won the 800 meters in 2:27.34, qualifying her for the New England Division III Championships, and she was just ahead of teammate Brittany Gravallese, who was second in 2:29.33.

Lynne Hebert also qualified for the New England Division III championships, this time in the 1,000 meters, in 3:10.43, to take second place.  Lauren Perkowski will also be going in the 3,000 meters, winning the event easily in 10:22.77.   Shannon Parks added another win in the shot put, with the best toss of the day at 11.45 meters.

Men's Highlights

Clinton Mungeta posted a win in the 400 meters in in 52.34, just edging out teammate Brandon Castor, who was second in 52.78.  Caleb Steever won the high jump at 1.90 meters, and Jared Hannon was second in the long jump at 6.19 meters.

Zach Coburn was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:09.48, and Rob St. Laurent was fifth in the mile in 4:42.76, and Iid Sheikh-Yusuf was fifth in the 3,000 meters in 9:31.87.  Mungeta, Jared Hannon, Castor, and Anthony Jennings made up the 4x400 meter relay team that was second in 3:33.19, while Coburn and St. Laurent teamed up with Alex Medina and Tyler DeChane for second in the 4x800 meters in 9:08.17.
