Anchorwomen Shut Down KSC, 72-38

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island College scored 39 consecutive points after trailing by six in the first quarter Saturday afternoon and went on to coast to a 72-38 win over the Keene State College women's basketball team in Little East action at The Murray Center.

How It Happened

Keene State actually started off on the right foot after scoring seven consecutive points in two and a half minutes to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 10-4 lead following a layup by Hailey Derosia and five consecutive points from Kenzie Bennett, the last of which came on a three at the 4:17 mark.  However, Rhode Island College took a 12-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and then dominated the second 10 minuntes, shooting 69% (11-of-16) overall and 3-of-4 from three point range.  After taking a six point lead, KSC did not score for over 18 minutes and did not make another field goal unitl 1:35 remained in the third.  The Anchorwomen led 39-10 at halftime and then scored 15 of the first 17 points of the second half to extend their lead even further.

Rhode Island College shot 55% (29-of-53) in the game and KSC just 28% (13-of-47).  The Owls also made just 6-of-15 (40%) from the foul line and were outrebounded 43-21.

Lilly Shlimon led Keene State with 14 points (5-10 FG) and three rebounds off the bench while Katie Martineau made both of her attempts from three to score six points.  Those two shot a combined 7-for-13 from the field.  Rhode Island College was led by Sophia Guerrier, who had 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting, six rebounds, three assists and a block.  Three others scored nine as the Anchorwomen won for the 10th straight game.  Their lone loss on the season was a one-point (47-46) decision at Williams College (12-2).
