MEDFORD, Mass.--Junior Ben Musese shattered the school record in the triple jump in his very first meet with Keene State as the Owls' track and field teams competed at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday.
Musese, who was an All-American in the outdoor triple jump last season at the University of Southern Maine, leaped 14.18 meters, breaking a 14 year old mark set by Craig Stuart in 2006. Stuart's mark of 13.91 was set at the 2006 LEC Championships. Musese's mark is currently 19th in the country - the top 20 will qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in March, and was also a qualifier for the New England Division III Championships.
Musese was also 10th in the long jump, at 6.28 meters, while Ryan Sullivan had a jump of 5.95 meters. Sullivan also ran the 60 meter dash in 7.40 seconds, while Brandon Castor ran the 200 meters in 23.68 seconds. Cameron Giordano ran the 600 meters in 1:33.32, and Jacob Pearl ran the 800 meters in 2:02.53.
In women's action, Nicole De Almeida qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the 600 meters, in 1:42.85, while Lynne Hebert qualified in the mile in 5:23.63. De Almeida, Chloe Page, Hebert, and Skyler Gauthier ran the 4x400 meter relay in 4:13.26, and Shannon Parks threw the shot put 11.57 meters.
