GORHAM, Maine--Junior Ben Musese broke his own school record in the triple jump for the third time this season as the Keene State College track and field teams each finished fifth at the Little East Conference Championships at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.
Men's Highlights
Musese, competing at the USM Field House for the first time in an opposing uniform, won the triple jump in 14.22 meters, increasing his own school mark by .02, set just a week ago. He also came in fifth in the long jump at 6.34 meters.
The Owls' other LEC champion came in the form of Rob St. Laurent, who won the 3,000 meters in 8:55.95. Jacob Pearl was second in the same event in 8:58.83, and was second in the mile in 4:22.96, just .17 behind the winner.
Ryan Sullivan was sixth in the long jump at 6.27 meters and fourth in the high jump at 1.85 meters. Dylan Richards was ninth in the 5,000 meters in 17:06.97, and Brandon Castor was third in the 400 meter dash in 51.39. Cameron Giordano was ninth in the 600 meters in 1:31.32, and was part of the 4x400 meter relay with Castor, Pearl, and St. Laurent that was fifth in 3:39.48.
The Owls finished in fifth place with 49 points; UMass Dartmouth claimed the team title with 162 points.
Women's Highlights
Shannon Parks won the shot put at 12.15 meters, and Skyler Gauthier did the same in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.78 seconds. Nicole De Almeida and Chloe Page went 1-2 in the 600 meters, with De Almeida winning in 1:42.65, and Page next in 1:43.35.
Gauthier was also second in the 800 meters in 2:27.02, with Sarah Bialkin in seventh in 2:37.73, while Lynne Hebert was second in a pair of events, in the 1,000 (3:08.97) and in the mile (5:16.80). Hebert, De Almeida, Page, and Gauthier also comprised the 4x400 meter relay that was victorious in 4:13.65.
Gauthier added a fifth place finish in the high jump (1.48 meters), while Christina Martin was fifth in the 5,000 meters (19:57.57) and Hannah Jones was sixth (20:31.04). Martin was also seventh in the mile in 5:57.09 and Jones was fifth in the 1,000 meters in 3:32.87.
The Owls were fifth place as a team, with 78.5 points; Southern Maine won the team championship with 137.5 points.
Up next, the Owls will be in action at the New England Division III Championships on February 28-29. The women's championship is at Middlebury College, and the men's is at Springfield College.
