LEWISTON, Maine - The Keene State College men's lacrosse team was unable to find the back of the net in big numbers on Wednesday evening, as Bates College used their tough defense to shut down all of the Owls attack, leading to a 14-4 victory from Garcelon Field.

Records:

  • Keene State: 0-3
  • Bates College: 1-3

How it Happened:

The Bobcats got the game started right away as just 21 seconds into the game, Chris Costello took a feed from teammate Matt Chalastawa and putting it past the Owls GK Chase Chamberlin, giving Bates the early 1-0 lead. The one goal lead did not last for the Bobcats for very long as the Owls were able to take the ball down the field and get some attack going. After a groundball was picked up by Anthony Marcella, the Owls took the ball downfield and senior Joe Nutting cashed in on an opportunity at goal, giving Keene State their first goal of the contest, just over five minutes into the first quarter.

The Owls would be shut down from that point on, as they saw Bates score the next nine goals of the contest. Bobcats forwards Jack Scribner picked up the next three goals giving Bates the 5-1 lead. The Bobcats would continue their domination of the second quarter, as the Owls were shutout in the quarter in the goal department. Five different goal scorers would tally in the second quarter, giving the Bobcats an 8-1 lead heading into the break.

Bates continued to pour it on Keene State in the third quarter, as Walter Braun and John Farrell each netted a goal in an eventual 10-1 lead for the Bobcats, The Owls would finally get back on the board with 1:56 remaining in the third quarter, as Nathan Sickles took a feed from Anthony Marcella and ripped a shot past Bobcats GK Rob Strain. The Owls would get the next tally of the contest, as Jordan Caito continued his dominance on the field scoring his sixth goal in just his third game on the season. The Bobcats would get an extra insurance marker with just ten seconds left in the third quarter, increasing their lead back to nine goals.

The fourth quarter did not fare well for the Owls as they saw Bates continue to roll scoring four consecutive goals, leading by as many as 11. Jordan Caito would add a tally with just seconds remaining on the clock in an eventual loss for the Owls at the hands of the Bates Bobcats 14-4.
