AMHERST, Mass.--Twin sisters Skyler and
Alexis Gauthier took a huge step towards qualifying for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with outstanding showings at the UMass Multis on April 13-14 at the UMass Track and Field Complex.
Skyler Gauthier scored 3,898 points, finishing eighth overall and giving her the fifth best score in NCAA Division III.
Alexis Gauthier finished with 3,781 points, ninth overall and the sixth highest score in all of NCAA Division III. The Gauthiers were the only Division III competitors in the entire meet, which featured competitors from Northeastern, UNH, UMass, Hartford, and UVM.
Skyler ran the 100 meters in 16.52, had a leap of 1.39 in the high jump, threw the shot put 9.05 meters, and ran the 200 meters in 27.93 on day one of the competition. Day two saw her jump 5.05 meters in the long jump, throw the javelin 26.42 meters, and complete the competition by running the 800 meters in 2:32.76.
Alexis ran the 100 meters in 16.06, and jumped 1.51 meters in the high jump. She also threw the shot put 8.89 meters, and ran the 200 meters in 27.57. On the second day of competition, she leapt 4.69 meters in the long jump, threw the javelin 24.37 meters, and finished the 800 meters in 2:49.13.
The 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C. The top 19 scores in each event will qualify.
