Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Keene State College softball team found it tough going in a 10-2, 18-6 sweep at the hands of Rhode Island College on a blustery day at the Dayna A. Bazar Complex on Friday. Both games did not count towards the non-conference schedule.

How it Happened - Game One
Rhode Island College jumped on KSC starter
Alexis Blanchette, scoring four times in the bottom of the first to stake starter Caitlin Lopez. Amber Wainright added an RBI groundout in the second inning to make it 5-0, and RIC grew the lead to 8-0 as Katelyn Ashe doubled in a pair of runs and Alexis Boyce had a sacrifice fly.
The Owls got on the board in the fifth when
Sara Cote drew a lead off walk and moved to second on
Kylie Frank's single to left.
Kate Fisher was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and RIC reliever Faith Turiense hit
Olivia Albert to force home a run. The Owls added a second on
Alexis Blanchette's sacrifice fly to center. The Anchorwomen tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest.
Frank and
Megan Blanchette each had a pair of hits for KSC.
Alexis Blanchette (2-6) took the loss, striking out five and walking three.
How it Happened - Game Two
Keene State found the going just as tough in the nightcap, allowing RIC to score in every frame and take an 8-0 lead after two innings, highlighted by Wainwright's grand slam in the bottom of the second.
Cote broke up the shutout by bringing in Fisher with a sacrifice fly to right field in the third inning, and
Faith Barbieri scored on Frank's infield hit. After a six run third increased RIC's lead to 14-2,
Alexis Blanchette drove in another run with an RBI groundout. The lead swelled to 18-3 before
Emma Pede knocked in a pair with a single to left and scored on Albert's triple.
Albert would finish with a double and a triple; five other KSC players had one hit each. Albert (2-9) took the loss.
Around the Horn
- This was the first time RIC had beaten Keene State since April 21, 2013; the Owls had won 14 in a row over the Anchorwomen.
- The 18 runs were the most allowed by Keene State in a game in school history. The previous record was 16 in a loss to No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 21, 2009. Keene State also allowed 16 runs in a road defeat to Western Connecticut State on March 30, 2008
- Five players have started all 22 games for the Owls this season; Albert, Grace Hallett, Cote, Frank, and Barbieri.
