Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 19 Amherst

KEENE, N.H. -- Junior Haile Ratajack netted a hat trick as the Keene State College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 19 Amherst College on a brisk Tuesday evening at the Owl Athletic Complex.

How It Happened 

Women's Lacrosse Program Cover vs. Amherst 3.29.2022The Mammoths got on the scoreboard within the first two minutes of play, but the Owls hung on tight to keep Amherst at bay in the first quarter. The teams traded goals, with Ratajack netting two goals for Keene State assisted by senior attacker Brigid Casey. The Mammoths would score two more goals in the first to lead 4 -2. 

The Owls were outscored 5-2 in the second, as Marina Bevacqua and Campbell Moriarty each netted a pair of goals for the Mammoths. Casey set up back-to-back goals for teammates Jackie DeAngelis and Ratajack with less than five minutes remaining in the period. Amherst led 9-4 after the first half. 

Amherst extended their advantage in the second half, netting six straight goals. Freshman Amethyst Phelps scored her first career goal with 11 seconds remaining in the third, the Owls trailing 15-5. 

Casey scored the lone goal for Keene State in the final quarter, her 17th of the season. The Mammoths concluded the scoring with one goal in the fourth period, to defeat the hosts 16-6. 

Inside the Crease 

- Ratajack netted a hat trick, tallying 61 career goals. 
- Casey netted one goal and tallied four assists for the Owls.  
- Senior goalkeeper Haley Terva notched five saves between the pipes.

- Keene State launches into conference action at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday at 12 PM. 
- Amherst returns home to host No. 16 Bowdoin on Saturday.
