How It Happened
Playing a day later than originally anticipated due to rain and unplayable field conditions Tuesday, the hosting Mammoths ran their winning streak in the all-time series to 11 consecutive games, rebounding from a 3-1 loss to defending national champion and top-ranked Middlebury College this past weekend. KSC goalkeeper
Clara Gorman made six stops in the first half to keep the Owls within one after one quarter two at halftime, but the flood gates opened in the third as D'Alleva scored twice in a 1:27 span less than three minutes out of the locker room to double Amherst's lead to 4-0, which became 5-0 at the 37:44 mark when Mazambani scored off a feed from Paige DiBiase, who had two assists on the night. D'Alleva completed the hat trick with 11:26 left to complete the scoring. Her and Mazambani have scored nine of Amherst's 17 goals on the season.
Keene State made three defensive saves on the night, with
Hailey Patridge keeping out a shot from Beth Williamson in the 14th minute and
Hannah Wood denying Sam Maynard in the 22nd minute to keep it, at the time, 1-0. Trailing by that score later in the first, the Owls had a chance, but
Irini Stefanakos' shot went wide of the cage and Amherst goalkeeper Sara Nidus (2-1), who did not have to make a save in the win.
The Owls played three different goalkeepers, with
Clara Gorman (1-2) getting the start and making six saves in 37:44.
Molly Edmark played 10:50 and stopped one of two shots, while
Ashley Enis in 11:26 made two saves and did not allow a goal.
Four people – Mazambani, D'Alleva, Williamson, and Kat Mason – combined for 19 of Amherst's 30 shots.
