Owl Duo Reap Rewards of Outstanding Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--The Keene State College men's basketball duo of Jeff Hunter and Octavio Brito were both named as All-America award winners by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Hunter (Hudson, Mass.) was named a First Team All-American.   The Owls' co-captain was named NABC All-District, First Team All-Little East Conference, LEC Offensive Player of the Year, LEC Defensive Player of the Year, and to the LEC All-Defensive Team while leading the Owls to a 28-2 overall record and a perfect 16-0 mark in the Little East Conference.   The 6-7 forward started all 30 games and had 24 double-doubles, averaging 18.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game.   He was named LEC Player of the Week five times, USBWA National Player of the Week twice, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice.

Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) was named a Third Team All-American.  The sophomore co-captain was also named First Team All-LEC and to the All-LEC Defensive Team.   Brito led the Owls in scoring at 20.4 points per game, with 6.7 rebounds and shot 44.1% from three point range and and 75.8% from the foul line.  He was named LEC Player of the Week four times, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice this season.

"Incredibly proud to have two All-Americans in our program," said Keene State head coach Ryan Cain.  "It is a credit to their work ethic, talent, and leadership.  Jeff and Octavio are both as valuable off the court to our team, campus, and community as they are on the court.  Individual awards are also a reflection of the team's success and Octavio and Jeff were a huge part of that success...but all of our players in our program played a prominent role in our team performing at a high level and having success this season, and that success has allowed Jeff and Octavio to showcase their abilities on a national state and deservedly get recognized."

Both players have been named to the Bevo Francis Top 50 Finalist list.   The pair become just the fifth and sixth All-Americas in program history, joining Chris Coates (2001), David Stantial (2002), Tyler Kathan (2009), and Ty Nichols (2019).
