KEENE, N.H..--The Keene State College men's basketball duo of
Jeff Hunter and
Octavio Brito were both named as All-America award winners by D3hoops.com ahead of the NCAA Division III national championship game on Saturday afternoon.
Hunter (Hudson, Mass.) was named a Second Team All-American. The Owls' co-captain, who already was named NABC First Team All-American, NABC All-District, D3hoops.com First Team All-Region, First Team All-Little East Conference, LEC Offensive Player of the Year, LEC Defensive Player of the Year, and to the LEC All-Defensive Team led the Owls to a 28-2 overall record and a perfect 16-0 mark in the Little East Conference. The 6-7 forward started all 30 games and had 24 double-doubles, averaging 18.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game. He was named LEC Player of the Week five times, USBWA National Player of the Week twice, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice.
Brito (Lincoln, R.I.) was named a Third Team All-American. The sophomore co-captain was also named NABC Third Team All-American, NABC All-District, D3hoops.com All-Region, First Team All-LEC and to the All-LEC Defensive Team. Brito led the Owls in scoring at 20.4 points per game, with 6.7 rebounds and shot 44.1% from three point range and and 75.8% from the foul line. He was named LEC Player of the Week four times, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice this season. Brito was the only sophomore to be named an All-American by D3hoops.com.
Keene State was one of two schools to have multiple D3hoops.com All-Americans this year; joining them was Christopher Newport University. The Captains' Jahn Hines was a fourth team All-American and Trey Barber was a fifth team All-American.
