KEENE, N.H.—The Keene State College Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the next class of inductees to the KSC Athletics/Alumni Hall of Fame.
The inductees will be honored in a ceremony on September 29, 2023 in the Mabel Brown Room. Ticket Information will be forthcoming.
Bob Merrow
Bob Merrow was synonymous with Keene State athletic training from 1986 until his retirement in 2018. Joining KSC at a time where there was just one athletic trainer on staff, Merrow taught, provided athletic training healthcare to student athletes, and performed administrative duties. In 1989 the Physical Education/Sports Medicine option was restructured and modeled after other accredited curriculum programs. From 1994-1997 the program proposed and applied for national accreditation for the Athletic Training Option. And in November 1999, the program was approved as a four-year accredited undergraduate athletic training program that met the requirements for graduates to sit for the Board of Certification (AT) examination. One of the founders of the New Hampshire Athletic Training Association, Merrow was recognized by the by the New Hampshire Athletic Training Association (NHATA) for outstanding service to the field. A mentor to countless Keene State athletic training alums, Merrow also received the Keene State Outstanding Service Award in 2018.
Bobby Doyon, Baseball
Doyon is one of the greatest hitters in the history of Keene State College baseball. An outfielder for the Owls from 2008-11, Doyon holds the school records for slugging percentage, games played, at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases, times hit by a pitch, and stolen bases, as well as single-season marks for slugging percentage, doubles, home runs, RBI, and total bases. A four-time first team All-LEC honoree, Doyon was the LEC Rookie of the Year in 2008 and the LEC Player of the Year in 2010. The Owls won 105 games in his four years, including a school record 34 victories in 2008. The Owls won their first ever LEC tournament title in 2008, and reached the NCAA tournament in 2008 and 2010.
Rick Scott, Men's Soccer
Rick Scott is synonymous with soccer not only at Keene State College, but in Cheshire County and the state of New Hampshire. Scott was a four year starter at KSC and graduated in 1977 after serving in the Vietnam War. While a student, he served as the Claremont Middle School coach and founded the Claremont Youth Soccer Club. Scott served as team captain as a junior and senior, and was an All-Conference player in 1975 and 1976, and was All-New England as a junior. Scott recently became just the third collegiate coach to be inducted into the New Hampshire Coaches Soccer Hall of Fame. Scott was the Owls' head coach from 2014-2021, where he had a record of 66-53-12 (.549). Prior to taking the head coaching position at KSC, Scott was a mainstay in the program, serving for 19 years as the Associate Head Coach and working alongside legendary KSC bench boss Dr. Ron Butcher. Scott is the first individual to enter the Hall of Fame for his exploits as a contributor, player, and coach.
Dr. Stanley Yarosewick, KSC President 1994-2005
Keene State's President for a decade, Dr. Yarosewick assumed the Keene State presidency at an inflection point in the athletic department. In 1993, the College made the announcement to move to NCAA Division III and the Little East Conference by 1997. Although the decision was made by his predecessor, Dr. Yarosewick affirmed the decision and when the Owls moved into Division III, they hit the ground running, capturing the LEC Commissioner's Cup in 2001, a streak that would last for 15 years and four different college presidents. The Owls qualified for several NCAA tournaments during his tenure, including an appearance by the men's basketball team in the Elite 8 in 2004 and several NCAA national championships. In 2005, Keene State was named the ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year.
2006 Keene State Distance Medley Relay Team
The foursome of Breanne Lucey, Krystin Gavin, Sarah Miller, and Jennifer Adams comprised the distance medley relay national champions at the 2006 Indoor Track and Field Championships at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. The quartet set a facility record in 11:56.45, beating Wisconsin-Platteville by nearly two full seconds. Halfway through the race, Gavin gave KSC the lead and Lucey brought the championship home. The win helped the Owls finish fourth overall at the NCAA championships that year.
