RANDOLPH, Vt. – Playing in the same event that saw him become the inaugural Keene State College medalist a season ago, sophomore Caden Capaldo shot an eight-over 78 and was tied for eighth in a 40-golfer field as the men's golf team competed at the Tony Mariano Invitational at the Country Club of Barre on Friday.

The Owls also saw freshman Aysen Chancey finish with an 80 (+10) on the Par 70 course and senior Cade Williams an 82 (+12) as they finished fifth out of eight teams at the invite with a 328 overall, one stroke behind fellow Little East Conference member Vermont State University Castleton who finished fourth.  Sophomore Colin O'Brien added an 88 for KSC and freshman Matthew Bryant, making his initial competitive collegiate appearance, a 92.

KSC had opened the season with a 336 as a team at the New England College Invitational four days ago, and last year at this same event shot a nearly identical 327.  Capaldo won the event with a 73 (+3), beating Matt Printup of Norwich in a playoff.

"We played better than the first match, but I think our potential this year is very good," said Keene State head coach Jeff Timmer.  "The entire team of ten has been great from day one at trying to get better, and if they keep pushing each other we are only going to improve."

Norwich's grey team won the event with a 306 as a team, three strokes better than their score last year.  Cooper Bertrand of the Cadets and Matt Gover of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts led the field by each shooting a 71.  Norwich had three of five golfers finish with a 77 or better, aiding them to a three-stroke win over New England College as a team.

The Owls travel to the Brett Williamson Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at the Tekoa Country Club on Wednesday, September 20 (10:00 a.m. tee time).
