Skinner to the Rescue as Owls Bag Second Straight League Draw

Senior Captain Nets Fourth of the Season

KEENE, N.H.--Senior captain Alexa Skinner scored for the fourth time in the last five games to give the Keene State College women's soccer team a 1-1 draw with visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in Little East Conference action at Dr. Ron Butcher Field.

Records
  • Keene State: 3-2-2, 0-0-2 LEC
  • Eastern Conn. State: 3-3-1, 0-1-1 LEC
How it Happened

In a game of few first half chances, the Warriors struck first in the 10th minute of the game.   Sophomore Katelyn Herbert beat the offside trap and found herself all alone in front of Owls' goalie Sonia Moritz, and made no mistake by scoring her fourth of the season to the lower right.

The Owls struck back 13 minutes later, with Skinner providing the heroics yet again.   A week after she scored the only goal of the game on a free kick against WestConn., the Owls' leading scorer picked up the ball in plenty of space, and unleashed a piledriver from fully 35 yards out that bounced off the crossbar and over the line to tie the score.

Keene State ramped up the intensity in the second half, as Bryn Dickinson saw her shot saved to the lower right by ECSU goalie Emily Wallace, while Giuliana Stolfi rattled the crossbar from close range, but the ball bounced into Wallace's hands and was adjudged not to have crossed the goal line.

Wallace made four stops for the Warriors, while Moritz was called upon to make just two saves for Keene State.

Inside the Box
  • This result was just the third ever tie in the series history between Keene State and Eastern Conn. State, and the first ever in the regular season.   The other two came in 2003 and 2011 respectively, both in LEC Championship game.   Eastern Conn. State won each of those matches via a penalty shootout.
  • You would have to go all the way back to 2000 to find the last time Keene State had at least two ties in league play.  The Owls tied No. 18 WestConn 2-2, Plymouth State 1-1, and UMass Dartmouth 0-0 that season.
Up Next
  • The Owls continue conference play with a visit to the renamed Vermont State University Castleton on October 27 at 7 p.m.
  • The Warriors will host Rhode Island College that same evening at 6 p.m.
