How it Happened

The first 45 minutes of play was scoreless for the two teams, although Keene State would dominate the first half in possessions and chances. Over the first half, the Owls would outshoot the Pilgrims 10-1, seven times testing Pilgrims' goalkeeper, Hollie Bomba, who saved every shot, to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

Keene State would try to score their first goal shortly into the second as Katie Hattie and Marissa McCarney would take shots on net only to have them saved by Bomba, and another McCarney shot hit off of the post. Bryn Dickinson would help open the scoring as she sent a cross from outside the right side of the box over to Elizabeth Kopicko, who headed the pass past the Pilgrims' goalkeeper putting the Owls up 1-0 at the 63:41 mark. Just over four minutes later, Emily O'Connell would take a touch at the top of the box, drawing the NEC defenders and then slipped a pass to a cutting Riley Devine toward the goal. Devine took a dribble and then snuck a shot past Bomba, putting the Owls up 2-0 and scoring for the second time in as many games to start the season.

Over the next nine minutes, Bomba would make six more saves in net for NEC, but she was unable to corral the sixth save, coming from the Owls' Elizabeth Tschudin, as Devine got the rebound and shot it with her left foot past a diving Bomba, putting the Owls up 3-0 at the 77:25 mark. The final goal for the Owls would come with 1:48 to play, as Kendall Healey sent the ball across the field to Avery Amalfitano, who gave the gave the ball a touch and sent a shot from outside the box, up and over the jumping arms of Bomba. Amalfitano's first career collegiate would be the third career first on the day, as Dickinson and O'Connell also notched their first career points on helpers to scores by Kopicko and Devine, respectfully.
