Beacons' Attack is Too Much for the Owls, as KSC Gets Shut Out, 5-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Keene State College men's soccer team traveled to take on the University of Massachusetts-Boston on Saturday at noon, as KSC looked to improve on their 2-0-3 record over the past five games. In the end, the Beacons halted the Owls' five-game unbeaten streak, as they scored four first half goals on their way to a 5-0 win over KSC.

Records
  • Keene State: 3-6-3 (2-2-1 LEC)
  • UMass-Boston: 5-1-4 (3-0-1 LEC)
How it Happened

The first action of the contest was a goal by Patrick Garcia for the Beacons, 7:16 into play, to put UMB ahead early. After the Beacons' next two shots were not on target, 9:56 after their first goal, they tacked on another, as Diego Gisholt assisted Rafeal Gross to put UMB ahead by two. KSC's lone shot in the opening half came from Cristian Correa in the 20th minute, but it was off target. The Beacons continued to pester the Owls' defense, as they had three consecutive corner kicks over a two minute span. After the third one, it resulted in another assist for Gisholt, as Eduardo Chirico put UMB up 3-0 in the 24th minute. In the 31st minute, Regan Racicot, the Owls' goalkeeper, made his first save of the day, denying Marron Acheampong of putting UMB up by four. Unfortunately for the Owls, the Beacons would increase their lead to four soon after. Following a corner kick, Max Mian scored for UMB in the 37th minute, as the Owls allowed four goals in a half for the first time of the season. Racicot made a pair of saves in net in the closing minutes of the opening half, as UMB held a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Just as he did at the end of the first half, Racicot made a save to open the action in the second half. Soon after, Mian added to his goal earlier in the day with an assist to Potter Erickson, who put the Beacons up, 5-0. After both teams traded possessions back and forth over the next 13 minutes, KSC got their first shot on goal of the day, as they looked to start their comeback attempt. Nicholas Henao Vazquez was hoping to net a goal in the second consecutive game for KSC, but he was denied for the moment, by Victor Reyes, the Beacons' goalkeeper. 10 minutes later, KSC looked to strike again, but Reyes made another save in net, while denying Reed Rampinelli of netting a goal for the Owls. In the final 10 minutes of action, Reyes recorded another save, this time on Stephen Kallestad, and Racicot made a pair of saves to hold the final score to 5-0 for the Beacons.
