How it Happened
The Owls offense looked to jump to a lead first, for what would be the fourth time of the season, but Castleton's goalkeeper, Emma Ezzo, made four save on KSC's four shots on goal over the opening 15 minutes of play to keep the contest scoreless early on. The first shot from the Spartans came a few seconds apart, as Owls' goalkeeper Riley Andriski made a diving save to deny Becky Hannwacker a goal, but Andriski was unable to corral the rebound and it fell right to Maggie McKearin, who buried it into the back of the net in the 28th minute. Castleton added another goal just 4:17 later, as Rylee Pepin assisted Mallory McKenna, who flicked a shot over the charging Andriski, to put VTSUC up, 2-0. KSC was unable to get on the board the rest of the half, as Ezzo made a pair of saves, while Andriski made a save in net for KSC, to prevent Castleton from taking a 3-0 lead into the half.

The Owls turned to freshman goalkeeper, Hannah Verville, for the second half, as they hoped she would have as great of a half as Ezzo did. Ezzo opened the second half with a pair of saves in net for the Spartans, then in the 64th minute, McKearin had a breakaway attempt, which Verville saved the first shot, but just like her first goal, the rebound fell right back to her, and she scored the second shot to put VTSUC up 3-0. KSC looked to mount their comeback in the 70th minute, but following a pair of corner kick attempts for KSC, Ezzo made a pair of saves in net again to stump KSC. KSC continued to apply the pressure the remainder of the contest to try to comeback, but their three more corner kicks did not result in anything, and KSC's five more shots were saved by Ezzo, to shut them out in the contest.
