Women’s Basketball Falls to Dartmouth in Exhibition

Owls Open Regular Season Tuesday

Box Score

HANOVER, N.H. – Brynn Rautiola made 4-of-9 from three-point range for a team-best 14 points and Ruby Dasaro added eight points in her first ever collegiate game, but the Keene State College women's basketball team fell to Division I Dartmouth College 98-47 in an exhibition game for the Owls and season opener for the Big Green Friday night at Leede Arena.

Victoria Page (5-7) and Zeynep Ozel (5-8) combined to make 10 of Dartmouth's (1-0) 15 three-pointers in the game as they shot 45.5 percent from beyond the arc – falling one shy of a program record – to open their season with a victory.  Six of the long range makes came in a 30-15 third quarter that ballooned what was a 45-24 lead for the home team despite KSC making 4-of-8 from deep in the second quarter.

Keene State shot 16-for-40 (40 percent) over the game's opening 30 minutes, far better than their 33.5 field goal percentage average from a season ago.  The Owls return the Little East Conference and New England Women's Basketball Association Rookie of the Year in Rautiola and will look to take further steps forward, building on a fifth-place finish in the conference last year.

Dasaro made two of her three long-range attempts and figures to be a newcomer to add an offensive spark to the group.  KSC shot 7-of-16 from long range in the middle two quarters tonight, but could not overcome 20 turnovers and not making a free throw (0-4).  Dartmouth finished with 28 assists and 10 miscues, shooting 55 percent from the floor.
It was the second straight year the teams matched up in an exhibition.  The Big Green pulled away in the second half for a 65-41 win last year after Aryanna Murray's buzzer-beater had KSC within 23-15 at the break.

The Owls open their regular season on Tuesday at New England College at 6:00 p.m.  They play their first six games away from home.
