HANOVER, N.H. – Keene State College junior
Molly Lu McKellar finished second in the women's pentathlon as she traveled to represent the Owls at the Dartmouth College Winter Invite Friday at the Leverone Field House.
The Hebron, N.H. native finished the event with a personal record 3,063 points, good for a second place nod behind only the University of Vermont's Kayla Myers (3,280 points). Dartmouth's Charlotte DiRocco (3,049 points) and Maya Pacarro (2,973 points) finished third and fourth, respectively, as the event featured two competitors from Dartmouth (Division I), two from Vermont (Division I), one from Franklin Pierce University (Division II), and one from the College of the Holy Cross (Division I).
McKellar's point total was a personal record by 220 points, and also included personal best of a 9.58 second finish in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:36.19 in the 800 meters. The latter time and her mark of 11.01 meters in the shot put were both first place marks at the event, where she was the only person to win more than one of the five. Myers took the long jump in 5.33 meters, but added second place marks in the high jump (1.57 meters) and 800 meters (2:36.81) to edge McKellar.
Overall, the 3,063 point total is currently the 14th best mark in Division III, just five points away from 13th and 174 from a top ten mark (Katie Moore; DePauw University; 3,237 points).
The Owls will return to Dartmouth on January 11 for the 54th Dartmouth Relays.
