GORHAM, Maine--15 Keene State College student-athletes earned All-Conference honors at the Little East Conference Track and Field Championships at the Costello Field House at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.
Savannah Soleau threw a season and personal best of 12.48 meters to win the event, a mark that is just .12 meters off the school record set by Shannon Parks in February of 2022. Â She becomes the seventh KSC athlete to win the indoor shot put, along with Oksana Anonhina (2002), Ellen Banning (2003, 2004), Sarah Wood (2005), Samantha Hirsch (2006), Bryanna Brown (2008), and Parks (2019, 2020, 2023). Â
Joclynn Tyler was third in the triple jump, at 10.20 meters, in an extremely close event where .35 meters separated first though fifth place.
Maggie St. John and Grace Furlong went 1-2 in the 5,000 meters, with St. John winning in 18:41.06, and Furlong right behind in 18:46.35. Previous KSC winners of the 5,000 meters include Marie Whitney (2013), Brianna Enderson (2014), Kaley Mientkiewicz (2015), Lindsay Such (2016), and Lauren Perkowski (2019).
St. John also won the 1,000 meters in 3:17.90, edging out Sam VanDeMoere of Plymouth State by .09 seconds. Â She extends the Owls' dominance in the event, becoming the ninth winner in school history, along with Mary Proulx (2002, 2003), Shannon O'Brien (2004, 2005), Jennifer Adams (2008), Amy Knoblock (2009, 2011), Maggie Fitter (2012, 2013), Kait Wheeler (2015), and Lynne Hebert (2019).
Furlong was second in the 3,000 meters in 10:55.31. St. John also teamed up with Bryn Dickinson, Anna O'Reilly, and Sarah Ames to take third in the 4x800 meter relay in 10:25.96.
Molly Lu McKellar was third in the 55 meter hurdles at 9.03 seconds. Ames was third in the mile in 5:24.27.
Keene State was second as a team for the second year in a row, with 95 points, a six point scoring improvement from last season.
On the men's side, Kyle Maruca won the shot put at 14.09 meters. He becomes the first KSC champion in the shot put in nine years, since Ben Keach won in 2015, and just the third ever LEC champion in the event, joining Keach (2014, 2015) and Keene State Hall of Famer Bryan Kolacz (2008, 2009, 2011).
Eden Damis was second in the triple jump at 13.72 meters,Â
Griffin Urnezis won the 3,000 meters in 8:58.16. Â Urnezis' win gives Keene State a champion in the 3,000 meters for the seventh time, joining Josh Ferenc (2002, 2004), Pat Ard (2005), Tim Pipp (2011), Thomas Paquette (2013), Ryan Brady (2015), and Rob St. Laurent (2020, 2022).
Also picking up points for the Owls were Matthew St. John in the shot put (sixth, 11.94 meters), Tommy Ahlers in the 55 meter dash (sixth, 6.71), and in the 200 meter dash (fifth, 23.10), Tyler Bolaske in the mile (4th, 4:30.18), Sam Hennedy in the 400 meter dash (sixth, 52.47), and the 4x400 meter relay team of Hennedy, Eric Carlo, Jonathan DeAguiar, and Dawson Hamele (fifth, 3:36.97), as well as Aidan Law in the 200 meter dash (sixth, 23.13).
Keene State was fifth with 43 points, a one place improvement from a year ago. Â
All first, second, and third place finishers were noted as First, Second, or Third Team All-Conference, respectively.
