How it Happened
KSC set a new mark for the most goals scored in a quarter in a game for 2024, as they netted eight goals in the opening quarter. KSC got on the board first with a pair of goals, coming from
Jack Ansart, off an assist from
Rex Maccarini, and the second came following the faceoff win from
Gabe Pereira, as Foresi put the Owls up a pair, 4:56 into the contest. After Cam Frankenhoff scored the first goal of the day for the Spartans 34 seconds later, the Owls scored six unanswered goals the rest of the opening quarter. The first of the three came within a 1:22 span, as Foresi, Maccarini, and
Jeff Wiedenfeld each picked up unassisted goals. After a caused turnover on defense from
Dylan Fadale,
Colby Quiet netted his first goal of the game, with 4:14 left in the quarter. The final two goals of the quarter came from
Tim Souza, and then following a pair of saves from Owls' goalkeeper,
Charlie Giuliotti, Quiet netted another goal, which gave KSC an 8-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
Quiet made an impact on the defensive end to open the second quarter, as he caused a turnover, which led to
Jaheim Lancaster assisting
Andrew Miller for a goal, 2:46 into the quarter. The teams traded goals over the next seven minutes, as Wiedenfeld scored his second of the game for the Owls, while Carter Frankenhoff scored his 27th of the season for the Spartans shortly after. The final goal of the quarter came from
Dylan Seymour on the Owls' next offensive possession after
Justin Miller caused a turnover on defense, which KSC a 11-2 lead heading into the half.
The Owls only scored one goal in the third quarter, as Lancaster assisted
Connor Woods on the opening, and only goal of the quarter, for the Owls, 2:37 into the quarter. Spartans' goalkeeper, Chase Strychaluk, was a big reason for why KSC only scored once in the quarter, as he saved the other three shot attempts on goal from the Owls throughout the third. After Woods' goal, Hunter Sarro tallied a pair of goals, while Cam Frankenhoff scored once to round out the scoring in the third and cut KSC's lead to seven heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Casey Meczywor scored a man-up goal for the Spartans, to open the scoring in the fourth, which brought them within six, but the Owls responded with six consecutive goals, once again. The first of the three came in the 2:53 following Meczywor's goal, as Seymour assisted Quiet for another goal, then Wiedenfeld recorded goal for the Owls, and
Andrew Miller picked up his 15th of the season, shortly after. Strychaluk saved the next three shots in net for the Spartans, but he was unable to stop the next one, as Souza made it four consecutive goals for the Owls. Quiet scored his fourth goal of the game with 6:59 left to play, and
Henry Frechette assisted Ansart as the Owls tripled up the Spartans, 18-6, with 5:10 left to play. VTSU's final goal of the game came with 3:17 remaining, as Ethan Esposito scored a man-up goal for the Spartans. High School teammates, Maccarini and
Andrew Miller, recorded the final two goals for the Owls in the victory, with Maccarini's being unassisted and
