ELLINGTON, Conn. – Sophomore Sean Bonneau shot a seven-over 79 to lead the Keene State College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the 5th Annual Warrior Invitational held Tuesday at the Ellington Ridge Country Club and hosted by fellow Little East Conference member Eastern Connecticut State University.

Paced by the reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Year who finished just two strokes from the individual title won by Eastern's Chris Davidson (77, +5), the Owls shot a 333 as a team, five shots better than ECSU.  Following Bonneau was Jaxson Roenick with an 82, Sean McCaffrey and Ace Chancey each with an 86, and Ben Fecteau with an 89.  Bonneau shot a 39 on the back nine, while also posting birdies consecutively on No. 4 and No. 5.  Roenick posted a match-high four birdies individually, recording those on holes No. 2, No. 4, No. 10, and No. 11.  They were two of only three in the 20-man field to record multiple birdies.  The winner Davidson had just one birdie (No. 13), but avoided score-devouring holes, as he parred 12 of the 18 holes while KSC's top two finishers finished with nine and four pars, respectively.

Keene State has improved their team score – and also had a different low scorer – each meet, going from a 345 in the opening invitational to a 338, and now to a 333.
Eastern Connecticut's second-best golfer on the day (Ryan O'Donnell) finished with an 86, while Cal Angelo had an 87 and Chris Stephenson an 88.

In team scoring, Wentworth Institute of Technology finished in third with a 354 and Western Connecticut State University fourth with a 358.

"It was a great round from Bonneau on a very difficult course," said KSC head coach Jeff Timmer.  "We are progressing forward and will keep working hard to get better."

It was KSC's first trip back to the Ellington Ridge Country Club since October of 2022 when they shot a 350 and a 354 at the two-day Little East championship in their inaugural season.  ECSU won the title that year, and last year, while the Owls improved from a sixth-place mark to be the runner up a season ago.  This year's championship will be held October 1-3 in Easton, Conn. at The Connecticut Golf Club and hosted by WestConn.

The Owls are back at it this weekend when they travel to the Vermont State University Castleton Invitational on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m.), September 21-22.
