Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls Record First Draw of Season with 0-0 Contest vs Lancers

KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College women's soccer team looked to bounce back after their three-game losing skid as they hosted the Lancers of Worcester State University on Wednesday night under the lights at Dr. Ron Butcher Field. The result for KSC would be one that they were familiar with in their 2023 season, but had not happened in their 2024 yet, as they tied for the first time on the year after the contest went scoreless over the 90 minutes of play.

Records
  • Keene State: 3-3-1
  • Worcester State: 1-3-1
Postgame Interview (Coach Testo)

How it Happened
The first half was the quieter of the two halves on the day, as there were only nine shots recorded over the 45 minutes, with six for the Lancers and three for the Owls. Of the nine shots, only one reached the target, as Ava Chevalier tried to put the Lancers on the board at the 11:28 mark, but KSC goalkeeper, Riley Andriski made a save to keep the game scoreless early on. All three shot attempts for the Owls in the opening half came from the foot of Kaylee Cormier, but they all missed the target, as KSC went into the half tied at 0-0 with WSU.

KSC was on the attack early in the second half, as the Owls got off the first four shots of the half. After the first pair of shots missed the target, the second two were nearly goals, if it was not for the Lancers' goalkeeper, Ella Gumienny, making a pair of great saves in the goal to keep it scoreless, with 30 minutes left to play. After both goalkeepers traded a save a few minutes later, KSC continued to keep their foot on the gas in the final minutes of the contest, as they outshot WSU 5-1 in the final 14 minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Owls, Gumienny came up huge in the goal for the Lancers, making three saves in a row, with a pair coming from Elizabeth Tschudin, and the other coming from Allison Kenyon. The other two shots in the final minutes came on great looks from Tschudin, but they would just nearly miss the target, to keep the score 0-0 as time started to wind down. With only 36 seconds left, it looked that WSU might have a chance to steal a win on the day, but Samantha Sharpe's shot went wide of the net and finalized the 0-0 draw on the day, as both teams recorded a tie for the first time on their 2024 season.

Inside the Box
  • The all-time series matchup still favors the Owls after the draw on the day, as KSC still leads the series, 18-5-4.
  • KSC outshot WSU 13-8, including 6-2 in shots on goal.
  • Andriski and Gumienny each posted a shutout, with Andriski only needing to make a pair of saves, yet having to make a handful of challenges to charging Lancer attackers, while Gumienny made six saves in net.
  • KSC had the advantage on corners, 4-1, while WSU recorded more fouls, at 9-8, with there being some major missed calls by the referees at critical points throughout the contest, that should have benefited the Owls.
  • Tschudin led all participants with three shots on goal over the match, throughout her 82 minutes played.
