Jaxson Roenick carded a 78 and sophomore
Aidan Davis shot a 79 to lead the Keene State College men's golf team on the first day of the Vermont State University Castleton Invitational held at the Rutland Country Club on Saturday. The tournament concludes with the final round on Sunday.
The Owls will enter day two in fourth place as a team, shooting a 325 overall as a team. New England College leads with a 302, followed by Clarkson University (305) and Norwich University (314). The host Spartans have a cumulative 345, Elms College a 354, and Vermont State University Johnson will not score as a team, bringing just three golfers.
In addition to Roenick and Davis,
Sean Bonneau finished with an 80 in Round 1 while Ace Chancey and Matt Bryant each shot an 88.
"We keep getting a little better each round we play," said KSC head coach Jeff Timmer. "We need to keep heading in the right direction tomorrow and see if we can gain a spot or two."
Roenick is five shots back of three co-leaders who shot a 73, including sophomores Eric Spoth and Ryan Makowski from Clarkson and freshman Ryan Waring from NEC.
Tee time on Sunday for the final round is at 11:00 a.m.
