Lehtonen Finishes in Top 20 in Collegiate Debut at Brett Williamson Invitational

Owls Play Young Group in Westfield Ahead of Consecutive Events Including LEC Championship at Keene Country Club

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Bradley Lehtonen finished inside the top 20 of a 50-golfer field, carding an 82, to lead the Keene State College men's golf team at the Brett Williamson Invitational hosted by Westfield State University Wednesday at the Tekoa Country Club.

The Attleboro, Mass. native parred nine of his final 13 holes on the day, including shooting a 38 on the back nine, which was just four strokes behind the best score on ten through 18 (Graham Hassan, NEC, 34).  Lehtonen finished with an 82 (+11) overall, settling down after a double bogey on two of the first three holes.

Sean McCaffrey finished right behind him with an 83, notching birdies on No. 7 and No. 12.  He was also stronger on the back nine, shooting a 39.

Rounding out KSC's group was Colin O'Brien (32nd, 88), Justin Prim (37th, 92), and Teddy Steinberg (49th, 111).

As a team, the Owls finished ninth at the event with a 345.   Teams four through nine were separated by just 10 strokes overall.  New England College took the team title, finishing with a 307 (+23) and three golfers inside the top 10 including co-winner Hassan (74) at plus-3 and Timothy Carlson in second at plus-4 (75).  Worcester State University (316, +32) and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (325, +41) finished second and third, respectively.  Shamus McLean of Mitchell College joined Hassan as the co-winner, finishing with a 74.  McLean parred 13 of the 18 holes and had a birdie on No. 14, while Hassan had three birdies, all on the back nine where he shot minus-2 (34).

Keene State returns home for the Keene State Invitational on Friday (September 27) at 10:00 a.m. and hosts the Little East Championship next Tuesday through Thursday (October 1-3).
