How it Happened
Owls' goalkeeper,
Riley Andriski, made a save on the first shot attempt early in the contest from the Chargers, but she was unable to save their second shot, which came on a penalty shot from Bridget O'Connell to put CSC up 1-0, 6:13 in. Over the next 20 minutes, both teams continued to trade possessions back and forth, with CSC outshooting KSC, 5-2, although each team only mustered one shot on goal, which the opposing goalkeepers saved. Two of the Chargers' shot attempts were taken from O'Connell again, as she looked to add her second goal of the day, both on break away attempts, but one shot went wide, while the other was saved by Andriski. In the final 20 minutes of the half, KSC was on the attack trying to draw even, but none of their shots found the back of the net, as CSC took a 1-0 lead into the half.
KSC kept up the pressure in the second half that they ended the first half with, as
Bryn Dickinson got KSC on the board with a goal 17 seconds into the second half, with
Kaylee Cormier and Tschudin picking up assists on the tying goal. Although KSC outshot CSC, 5-2 over the next 20 minutes, each team only saw one of their shots hit the target. Andriski once again made a huge save on a breakaway attempt from O'Connell, to keep the contest tied with 18:19 remaining to play. In the final 16 minutes of play, the Owls kept the pressure on the Chargers, as they got off five shots down the stretch. The final two shot were the most important, as
Giuliana Stolfi sent a corner kick into the Chargers' box,
Allison Yanski was able to connect for a shot, that was saved by Chargers' goalkeeper, Gabriela Calidonio, but the rebound fell right to Tschudin, who scored the game-winning goals with 6:19 left on the clock. The Owls held on in the end and prevented a CSC comeback, for the 2-1 comeback victory over the Chargers to improve to 3-0 to open their 2024 campaign.
