Men’s, Women’s Golf Open Season With Weekend Invitationals

Golf Newcomer Impresses Individually on Men’s Side; Women Rained Out Before Conclusion

NORTH SUTTON, N.H. – Keene State College men's golf newcomer Aidan Davis (Hinsdale, N.H.) finished plus-9 (81) and in a three-way tie for fourth place just three shots behind the individual winner as the Owls opened their season at the New England College Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

KSC finished fourth as a team at plus-57, though just three strokes separated the second through fourth place finishes.  New England College, the host, won with a team score of plus-37, 18 strokes clear of Vermont State University Castleton (+55).  Norwich University was third at plus-56.

Individually, the only golfers that finished ahead of Davis were Timothy Carlson (+6) and Graham Hassan (+7) of NEC and Cooper Bertrand (+7) of Norwich.

To make up the rest of the Owls' contingent, Ace Chancey placed 11th at +15, Sean Bonneau finished tied for 14th at +16, Ben Fecteau tied for 16th at +17, and Sean McCaffrey 20th at +22.

"We have struggled at that course in our first match of the year for three years in a row," said KSC head coach Jeff Timmer.  "I know as a team we will continue to get better, however, Aidan Davis had a really good round in the wind today, tied for fourth overall in the tournament.  Playing in the last group of the tournament isn't always easy and Aidan really did a great job in his first tournament for the team."

Davis, a sophomore, is also a member of the Owls baseball team.

The Keene State men are back at it on Wednesday in Barre, Vt. for the Tony Mariano Invitational that tees off at 10:00 a.m.

On the women's side Saturday at the Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, Mass., the event was postponed due to rain before its conclusion, wiping away official results.  Prior to the weather, KSC got scores of 89 from Madison Mousley, 93 from Mackenzie Hagearty, and 102 from Jodi Mercier.  Others did not finish before it was called.  The women will host the Keene State Invitational on Sunday, September 29 at 12:00 p.m. at the Keene Country Club.

Story will be further updated with complete results once they are received.
