Owls Dominate All Facets, Pick Up First LEC Win of 2025, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With a mix of a strong attack with the first goals of the season for both Claire Halligan and Kaylee Cormier, and a clean sheet from the Owls' defense and Riley Andriski in net, the Keene State College women's soccer team picked up their first Little East Conference win of the year with a 2-0 victory at Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon.

Records
  • Keene State: 4-4-6 (1-0-4 LEC)
  • Rhode Island College: 8-3 (3-1 LEC)

How it Happened

The Owls' attack was moving early as Elizabeth Tschudin tried to score two minutes into the contest, but the Anchorwomen's goalkeeper, Oceanna Orlandi, made the save on the first shot she saw on the day. Seven minutes later following a corner kick, Bryn Dickinson sent a cross back into RIC's box and Orlandi was unable to save the Owls' next shot as Claire Halligan headed home her first goal of the year for the Owls to give KSC a 1-0 lead. KSC's attack continued to apply pressure in the opening half as KSC recorded six shots, compared to two from RIC over the next 20 minutes. Orlandi saved the three shots that were on target by KSC, while Riley Andriski saved the one shot on target by the Anchorwomen over the 20-minute span. With under 10 minutes remaining in the contest the Owls quickly flipped the field from nearly goal line to goal line to score their second goal of the day. Andriski cut off a clear attempt by the Owls' goal, and sent an outlet pass out ahead of Tschudin, who sent a pass to Mikayla Ryan at midfield. After taking a touch, Ryan sent a pass out ahead of the Owls' dual-sport athlete, Keely Giordano, who blazed by RIC's defense and passed it across the Anchorwomen's box where Kaylee Cormier sent the one timer by the right leg of Orlandi to put the Owls ahead by a pair. Neither team had another scoring chance the remainder of the opening half as the Owls took their 2-0 lead into the second half.

The Owls' defense continued to hold strong to start the second half just as they did throughout the first half of action as Andriski saved the one shot on goal and the other two shots missed the target thanks to the Owls' defensive pressure. KSC continued their offensive pressure shortly after kept the shots coming as they averaged a shot a minute over a seven-minute span, but none of them were on target as their lead remained at two with 25 minutes remaining. Soon after Andriski made another save for KSC, Tschudin sent a header from the penalty spot, but it rang off the crossbar as she was prevented from scoring her third goal in the past four games for the Owls. The rest of the 18 minutes of action both goalkeepers made one more save apiece as the Owls held on for their 2-0 victory on the day.

"It was a great team win today by knocking off the number one team in the conference," said Owls' head coach Sarah Testo. "I am happy for Riley and the defense for the shutout. The team is playing well right now, hopefully we can keep it going."
