WORCESTER, Mass. –
Grace Bazin scored four goals for the second time in the last four games and recorded her remarkable ninth multi-goal effort in 15 games this season as the Keene State College field hockey team posted a 5-2 road victory over Clark University in non-conference action at Granger Field on Wednesday night.
The Westminster, Vt. native, in her third year as an Owl, became only the fourth player in program history to record 30 goals in a single season by putting the finishing touches on KSC's win with 3:24 left and is the first to hit the milestone in the last seven years. Bazin's 30 goals mean she is now just seven away from surpassing Sami Smith's single-season mark of 36 set in 2016. Nina Bruno finished with 32 in 2018 and Tanya Strong 30 in 2003 to round out the exclusive club, all of which were named All-Americans. Bazin's 66 points are good for fourth on the single-season list and her 75 career goals with KSC are now solo in third place on the all-time school list, five away from Bruno and 15 away from Smith – both four-year players.
The Owls (11-4) were in command on the scoreboard all night, opening up a 2-0 lead after one thanks to two Bazin goals in a span of 3:04 in the first quarter. Clark drew within one with just 1:03 to go until halftime in what seemed like might be a momentum-shifting score, but Bazin answered with 10 seconds left until the break to complete a hat trick in the first period. The Cougars again drew within one halfway through the third, but
Meghan Daileanes made it a 4-2 game just 1:38 into the fourth as KSC never relinquished their early lead – firing a game-high 10 shots in the final period. The Owls outshot the Cougars 23-20, though the home team landed only four on target (KSC 13) while suffering their fourth straight loss.
Keene State returns home to tangle with Eastern Connecticut State University (7-7, 2-0 LEC) in an important Little East Conference game on Saturday (October 18) at 1:30 p.m. The Owls will honor their 2025 senior class before the game. The Warriors have won three of four, including 2-1 conference wins over the University of Southern Maine on the road October 4 and at home against 2024 LEC regular season champion Vermont State University Castleton on October 11. The Owls have won 26 of 31 all-time meetings against ECSU.
