KEENE, N.H. –
Martin Lubunga made the most of his 37 minutes off the bench as he netted his third game-winning goal for the Keene State College men's soccer with under three minutes remaining to give the Owls the 1-0 win over Plymouth State University in a crucial Little East Conference matchup.
Records
- Keene State: 8-5-2 (2-3-1 LEC)
- Plymouth State: 4-10-1 (1-4-1 LEC)
How it Happened
Both starting goalkeepers opened the first 10 minutes with a save for their respective team, but PSU had what wound up being their best opportunity of the day in the 11th minute as Nils Skogestig send a shot on goal, but the Owls' senior captain
Elias Stowell-Aleman made the huge defensive save to keep the contest tied at 0-0 early on. The KSC attack was applying the pressure over the next 10 minutes as two of their three shots were saved by Kole Matta by the Panthers and the other was blocked by a PSU defender. The final 10 minutes of the half saw each defense block another shot, and Matta make another save as the game went into the second half tied 0-0.
The Panthers' attack was applying pressure early in the second half but KSC's goalkeeper,
Eldin Husanovic, saved both the shots on target over the first 16 minutes of the second half. Both teams traded possessions back-and-forth the rest of the half as both goalkeepers made another save apiece as the game started to look like it might end up being a 0-0 tie. Then following a save by Husanovic on defense for the Owls, less than a minute later on the other side of the field, KSC was finally able to break through. Nick Henao Vazquez sent a ball over to
Damir Hamzic, who led Lubunga for the one timer on the edge of the PSU box with a shot past the diving Matta for the go-ahead goal with 3:40 remaining. The rest of the way neither team was able to get a shot off as KSC held on for the 1-0 victory on the day.
