Highlights
How it Happened
Amherst opened the scoring early in the contest as a corner kick just a minute into the contest by Mohammad Nuhu was sent into the Owls' box and after a slight defection from Phineas Lonergan, the ball trickled past the Owls' defense and into the back of the net. The Mammoths' attack continued through the first half, but the Owls' goalkeeper,
Eldin Husanovic, saved their next shot attempt, and Riley Priddy's shot rang off the crossbar in the 21st minute for AC. Following their first four shots not reaching the target, it took until the 37th minute for the Owls to record a shot on goal, but following a corner kick, Juan Perez made the save on
Luke Belisle to preserve the Mammoths' lead for the moment. In the final seven minutes of the opening half, the Owls were able to hold off another offensive push from the Mammoths with Husanovic making another save and by KSC stopping the final three of five first half corner kicks for AC to limit the lead to a goal heading into the second.
KSC opened the second half on the attack as after
Tommaso Brivio hit the crossbar,
Dylan Chambers sent an arching pass into the Mammoths' box where
Nicholas Henao Vasquez headed home the tying goal in the 48th minute. AC responded right back just under 10 minutes later after there was a free kick for Nuhu on the edge of the Owls' box and his free kick changed directions and found the back of the net past
Mateu Farre-Torres to put the Mammoths back up. Farre-Torres bounced right back by making a pair of saves over the next 14 minutes as he tried to keep the Owls in the contest to try to mount a comeback. After scoring in the 48th minute, the next three shots from KSC missed the target and it was not until in the 83rd minute where
Carter Poinier's shot reached the target, but it was saved by Trey Sheppard for his first save of the day. Poinier's shot would up being the last of the day for the Owls as they were unable to mount a comeback as they fell to the Mammoths.
