How it Happened
Castleton tacked on three goals in the first period within a span of 1:17 that caused the Owls to make a goaltender change with
Ai Chung only making one save to open the contest as KSC turned to
Abby Tanner to hopefully see a change. Tanner finished the first period with 10 saves, while Gianna McCusker made three in net for the Spartans and Castleton took a 3-0 lead into the second period.
KSC opened the scoring in the second period as captain
Ava Iantosca scored two minutes in to pull within a pair to hopefully spark a comeback for KSC. Tanner saved the next three shots she faced, but two minutes after Iantosca's goal, Castleton increased the lead back to three with a goal from Olivia Carter. The Spartans continued to apply the pressure as they scored their fifth goal 1:31 after Carter's goal to go up by four early in the second. Tanner held her ground the rest of the period with six more saves, while McCusker made five more the rest of the period.
The goals kept coming in the third period from the Spartans as they scored four more in an 8:27 span to take a 9-1 lead that saw
Makenna Montgomery enter the crease for the Owls for the remainder of the contest. The rest of the 10:30, Montgomery made seven saves on the eight shots that she faced, while the Owls' attack was unable to get going and the Owls fell 10-1 to the Spartans.
