How it Happened
Guerin Favreau opened the scoring for the Gulls 43 seconds into the game. Following a turnover caused by
Tim Souza, KSC pulled even with a goal from
Nicholas McNulty 1:58 later. EC didn't let the game stay tied for long as they tacked on five goals in as many minutes, which included Favreau's second and third goals of the game. Following the Gulls' seventh goal of the game, with 5:31 remaining in the first,
Cameron Smith replaced
Dylan Florian in goal for KSC as the Owls looked for something to help gain some momentum. Favreau continued to pick apart KSC the rest of the first, as he added his second and third assists, one on each of the Gulls' final two goals in the opening quarter to give EC a 9-1 after the 15 minutes of play on the season.
KSC had a man-up opportunity at the start of the second quarter, but their two shots on goal to start the second were both saved by EC's goalie, Christopher Tillotson. 2:59 into the quarter, Smith picked up his first save of the game, but Favreau was able to sneak a shot past him 41 seconds later for EC's ninth goal in a row.
Rex Maccarini halted the Gulls' scoring streak with 10:51 left in the half as he scored an unassisted goal. KSC was unable to take advantage of their man-up opportunity, but after Smith made another save in net a minute later, Favreau capitalized on the Gulls' man-up opportunity with his fifth goal of the game. KSC tacked on two goals over 1:03 shortly after, as
Dylan Seymour scored the first and Souza assisted Maccarini for the second to cut EC's lead to seven. Tillotson saved the next two shots he faced as EC added one more goal the rest of the half as they took a 12-4 lead into the second half.
Thomas Barker won the opening faceoff for the Gulls in the second half and scored just 12 seconds later to increase the lead to nine for EC. Maccarini added another point 2:29 later, as he assisted
Cole Ricardi on his goal. Smith picked up another save in goal shortly after, but he was unable to save the following two shots from the Gulls as they added another pair of goals, with the second of the two being a man-up goal assisted once again by Favreau. Maccarini tacked on his third goal of the game with 8:37 left in the quarter, but EC once again responded with another two goals over the next 4:20 to make the score 17-6 in favor of the Gulls.
Ryan Valentine then entered as the goalie for the Owls and saved two of three shots the rest of the quarter, as EC tacked on another goal to take a 18-6 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.
Valentine faced 10 shots in net over the opening 7:37 of the final period and he saved six of them, as EC added four more goals, two of which were man-up goals, both assisted by Favreau, and making it seven-straight goals for the Gulls. With 6:03 remaining in the game, Ricardi netted his second of the game on the first shot that Teagan Alexander saw in goal for the Gulls, as he did not make a save in goal on the two shots that he faced in the third quarter. EC responded right back with a goal just eight seconds later from Donovan Devellis scored his first of the year. After
Jack Ricci won the ensuing faceoff and Alexander made his first save of the game,
Giacomo Tedone scored his first of the year with 5:12 remaining. The rest of the way EC added two more goals as they defeated the Owls 25-8 in the end.
